SAN FRANCISCO, SEP 15TH

Mein allerletztes Wochenende in Kalifornien habe ich mit meiner Freundin komplett in San Francisco verbracht, hier sind ein paar der Bilder, die ich an dem Samstag gemacht habe. Ich werd wirklich ein bisschen sentimental wenn ich sie mir jetzt angucke, aber wir hatten so eine super Zeit zusammen, dass ich hauptsächlich froh bin, dass ich so eine einmalige und wunderbare Erfahrung machen konnte.

these are some of the pictures from Saturday. I'm getting a bit sentimental just looking at them, but we had such a great time together that I'm mostly glad that I was lucky enough to be able to experience something that wonderful and unique.

ZURÜCK IN DER REALITÄT 

Und das schon seit genau 4 Wochen... die Zeit geht einfach wahnsinnig schnell vorbei und ich bin wirklich überrascht, dass ich schon so lange wieder zurück in Deutschland bin. Es hat sich gleichzeitig viel und überhaupt nichts verändert und je mehr ich zwischen meinen alten Möbeln und Kinderbüchern sitze, desto mehr bekomme ich das Gefühl, ab nächsten Montag wieder in die Schule gehen zu müssen. Dass ich letzten Monat noch über die Golden Gate Bridge gelaufen bin, kommt mir vor wie ein Traum und nach dem ersten großen Tief in dem ich nach meiner Ankunft hier war, gehts so wie es aussieht jetzt langsam aber sicher wieder voran...

Back in reality and that already since 4 weeks... time just flies and I'm totally surprised, that I'm really back in Germany since such a long time. So much and nothing has changed at the same time and the more I'M sitting in between my old furniture and childrens books the more I feel like I have to back to school next week... that I walked over the Golden Gate Bridge just a month ago seems like a dream. But after the first few weeks of feeling really sorry for myself it looks like everything is going in the right direction again...

Leni vs. Koffer

Nächste Woche sitz ich um diese Zeit schon lange im Flugzeug Richtung Deutschland, momentan bin ich hauptsächlich damit beschäftigt, 20 Monate "Abenteuer USA" in meine überdimensionalen Koffer zu quetschen. Ich will ja nicht zu viel verraten, aber es sieht (zumindest in diesem Augenblick) nach einem 1:0 für mich im Kampf Leni vs. Koffer aus, die Meisten meiner Sachen sind bereits in gerade zu monströsen Space Bags verschwunden.
Ich wär so froh, wenn ich behaupten könnte, dass ich schon alles geschafft hätte, da ich hier aber die nächste Woche nicht nackig rumlaufen kann, mussten noch ein Paar Sachen draußen bleiben. Hauptkriterien: Wenig Material (um sie im Notfall noch in die minimalsten Lücken meiner Taschen stopfen zu können) und gute Kombinierbarkeit miteinander... jaaa Oma, ich hab doch was von dir gelernt!

Ich habs in 3 Rubriken unterteilt, links Hosen & Röcke, mittig liegen Tops & Shirts und rechts längere Oberteile/ Jacken sowie ein Kleid. Bei den Farben hab ich darauf geachtet, dass es vieles in neutralen Tönen gehalten ist, aber jede Rubrik ein interessanteres Stück beinhaltet, so dass die jeweiligen Outfits nicht allzu langweilig wirken. Gut, dass mein Schmuck auch noch nicht verstaut ist.

This time next week I'll already sit in the plane back to Germany but at the moment I'm mostly trying to fit 20 month of my US adventure in my enormous suitcases. I don't wanna say too much, but it looks like I'm winning the case Leni vs. suitcase, most of my stuff already disappeared in gigantic space bags.
I would be sooo happy if I could say that I'm done with packing everything but due to the fact that I can't walk around naked the entire next week I had to leave some clothes out. Main criteria: as less material as possible (so that I can even stuff them in the tiniest left over spaces in my bags) and that I can combine them with each other... yes Grandma, I DID learn something from you!

I sorted everything into 3 categories: pants & skirts on the left, tops & short sleeved shirts in the middle and thin sweaters & cardigans as well as one dress on the right. I tried to pick mostly neutral colors but one more interesting and accenturating piece (like the flower pants oder the lilac lace shirt) in every rubric, so that my outfits don't get to be too boring. Good thing I didn't pack my jewelry yet either.

Kaufrausch

Nachdem ich ziemlich lange keinen Sinn darin gesehen habe, in Schminke zu investieren, da ich die meiste Zeit mit meinen Gastkindern zuhause oder auf dem Spielplatz verbringe, wo es eh keinen kratzt wie ich aussehe, wurde ich bei dem Gedanken an zuhause von einem kleinem Make Up Wahn befallen und musste direkt bei nächster Gelegenheit Sephora stürmen.

1. Meine langersehnte NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, die ich bereits in meinem letzten "Things I want this week" erwähnt habe. Für 42$ endlich mein! Ich hab sie auf Empfehlung der Verkäuferin in der Farbe "Light 4 Deauville" gekauft, da ich laut ihr zu den wenigen Menschen zähle, die keinen gelben Hautunterton haben... Problem: Die Farbe passt perfekt zu meinem Hals, leider aber nicht zu meinem momentan gebräunten Gesicht, sodass ich jetzt jedesmal, wenn ich die Foundation auftrage, ein bisschen aussehe wie ein Geist.
2. Rostfarbener Lidschatten in der Farbe "dazzle N°18", der auf 3$ reduziert und somit mitgenommen wurde.
3. Eine Mini Version der Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Mascara, die ich aufgrund von genügend Treuepunkten auf meiner Sephora Beauty Card umsonst dazu bekommen habe! Ich hab sie auch schon ausprobiert, sie teilt die Wimpern sehr schön und gibt auch einiges an Volumen, allerdings muss man wirklich einige Male tuschen.
4. Sephora by OPI Nagellack in der Farbe XOX Betsey, der auf 5$ reduziert war und deswegen auch nicht dort gelassen werden konnte.
5. Essie's "Midnight Cami", ich bin total verliebt. Ein wirklich schöner dunkelblau schimmernder Lack, der meiner Meinung nach vorallem auf den Fußnägeln wundervoll aussieht! Außerdem mein allererster Essie Lack, da ich mich vorher immer geweigert habe 8$ dafür auszugeben. Ich muss allerdings gestehen, dass mich die Qualität wirklich überzeugt hat, ich brauchte nur eine einzige Schicht und er hat ohne zu splittern um die 6 Tage einwandfrei gehalten.

Und um meine momentane Make Up Besessenheit noch zu untermauern , nehme ich noch an Rosannas Gewinnspiel teil, wo man, wer hätte das gedacht, auch wieder Schminke ergattern kann! Na dann drück ich mir selbst mal die Däumchen...

Die letzten Tage

Meine Tage in den Staaten sind langsam gezählt, am 19. September steige ich wieder, und diesmal endgültig, in den Flieger nach Deutschland.
Was ich davon halte weiß ich noch nicht genau, sicher ist aber, dass sich gerade eine bitterböse Melancholie bei mir breit macht, die sich trotz vieler Versuche nicht abschütteln lässt. Ich versuche jetzt einfach die letzten Tage noch so gut wie möglich zu nutzen, was natürlich auch bedeutet, noch so oft wie möglich San Francisco unsicher zu machen.


Die Bilder sind von letztem Sonntag, in der Stadt selbst war es eigentlich eher kühl und berühmt "foggy", trotzdem habe ich noch mal ein bisschen Zeit auf den Twin Peaks verbracht, da ich dort wahrscheinlich nicht mehr hinkommen werde.

Das eigentliche Highlight des Tages kam gegen Abend, als wir schon auf dem Rückweg waren. Nicht weit vom Haus meiner Freundin entfernt liegt eine sehr niedliche Lichtung mit einer Schaukel, von der man einen unglaublichen Blick auf die Bucht und San Francisco hat, vernebelter Golden Gate Bridge inklusive.

Es mag verrückt klingen, aber ich war selten so glücklich wie auf dieser Schaukel.

1. Ich suche schon so lange nach einer schönen Lederjacke und ich find diese von Topshop wirklich gerne, allerdings werde ich preistechnisch kaum in der Lage sein, sie zu kaufen... Lederjacken sind aber meiner Meinung nach eines der Grundkleidungsstücke, die jeder besitzen sollte und somit eine meiner 5 nächsten größeren Ausgaben.
I was looking for a nice leather jacket for the longest time and I really like this one from Topshop, even though I probably won't be able to buy it... But biker jackets are definitely a wardrobe essential and one of my five next big splurges.

2. Falls ihr Mr Kate noch nicht kennt solltet ihr euch sie wirklich mal anschauen! Sie hat einen ganz tollen Youtube Kanal, ihre eigene Schmuck Kollektion, Millionen innovativer DIY- Ideen und alles zusammen kann man auf ihrem Blog bestaunen. Ich liebe den goldenen Ear Cuff (Sorry, mein Deutsch hapert mittlerweile ein bisschen... wie heißt das auf deutsch?!), ihr gesamter Schmuck ist echt einzigartig.
If you don't know Mr Kate yet, go check her out! She has a gorgeous youtube channel, her own jewelry line, millions of great DIY ideas and everything combinded on her blog. I love the golden ear cuff, I think it's really unique and it looks awesome.

3. Meine Augenbrauen sind etwas merkwürdig und unglaublich dünn und zu kurz am Ende (Hallo Überzupfung in jüngeren Jahren), deswegen bin ich am überlegen, ob ich mir bald mal einen dieser Augenbrauenstifte besorgen soll.
My eyebrows are quite funny and unbelievable thin and too short towards the end (hello overplucking in younger years), so I guess I will invest in one of these eyebrow pencils pretty soon.

4. Ich hab nicht viel teure Schminke, aber bei Make Up investiere ich gerne ein bisschen mehr, ich hab einfach das Gefühl, dass es besser für meine Haut ist. Und da ich einige gute Bewertungen der Sheer Glow Foundation von Nars gelesen habe, werde ich mir diese bei meinem nächsten Sephora Besuch mal genauer angucken.
I don't have a lot of expensive make up but when it comes to foundation I do like to spend some money, I just kind of have the feeling it's way better for my skin. And since I've read a lot of good reviews on the Sheer Glow Foundation from Nars I'll buy when I'm at Sephora the next time.

5. Etwas, wo nur ich dämlich genug für bin: Ich hab mir endlich einen ziemlich langen Traum erfüllt und mir letzte Woche eine gebrauchte Canon Rebel bestellt um dann zu merken, dass die Linse gar nicht mit geliefert wird. Das ist also tatsächlich eine wirklich wichtige Investition!
Something only I am capable of: I finally fulfilled a long dream of mine by ordering a Canon Rebel last week, only to realise that in my excitement I only bought the body of the camera without lens. So this is actually a necessary investment!

Ich glaube ich habe vor ungefähr drei Jahren angefangen, Pixiwoo zu abonnieren und seitdem kaum ein Video verpasst. Sam und Nic sind unglaubliche Make Up Artist, ihre Tutorials sind super und ich habe das Gefühl, wirklich viel von ihnen gelernt zu haben.
Ganz besonders verliebt bin ich in Sams "Ombre Brows & Lips Tutorial", ich würde so gerne versuchen es nachzuschminken, allerdings befürchte ich, dass es noch nicht mal halb so toll wie an ihr aussehen würde.

I think I subscribed to Pixiwoo around three years ago and I've barely missed any of their videos. Sam and Nic are amazing Make-up Artists, their tutorials are great and I feel like I've learned a lot from them.

I especially love love love Sam's "Ombre Brows & Lips Tutorial" which I posted below, 

I would really like to try to recreate this look, but I'm afraif that I won't look half as stunning as her.

Roadtrip '12

I was working a lot the last weeks and I'm almost killing myself planning the ultimate roadtrip... just one more week to go, whooooho. 

Starting next Saturday we're going to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Santa Fe, New Orleans, Nashville and Memphis + we're going to see Death Valley,  Route 66, the Grand Canyon and Four Corners.
I can't even tell you how excited I am, this is going to be the biggest adventure ever.

The beach is so cold in winter here.

Yesterdays' outfit, probably the last with my beloved selfmade cut offs. I have the feeling I left them too long in the bleach so that the denim became really thin and porous... they are pretty much falling apart. I guess I'll do the same with another pair of pants and just be more careful the next time.

Today I didn't work that much because my host family is out of town over the weekend and already left around 2pm, so I had a really nice relaxing day and later on I went to the Macy's Sales Day with a friend. I didn't buy anything that was on clearence, but I don't really care because most of the stuff was still too expensive and I have to save money for my roadtrip anyway.

Purple Rain.

I took these pictures last Saturday in Mill Valley, it it almost too beautiful there.

I was wearing a dress from Goodwill ($4,99), ballet flats from Primark (€3 ?), a straw hat from Goodwill ($2,99) and a denim jacket (Hospice Thrift Store, $4)

Sitting at the lake late at night after a beautiful day in Mill Valley was so incredible peaceful and quiet, unfortunately I ended up being dinner for the mosquitoes.

Coconut Oil.

After weeks of mostly rain, hail and storms (What the hell was that? The great deluge or what?!) it looks like summer finally arrives here in Northern California and nobody could be happier than me!

My lovely friend Julia currently asks on her blog: "Which beauty products remind you of summer?" and I cannot help myself but thinking that my beauty essential number 1 might have helped me to get a slight tan although I normally have pretty fair skin and problems to get tan at all (I have a reputation for being the girl who either turns lobster red or coming back from vacation still looking like a snowflake).

So my summer essential is... Coconut Oil!

First of all, the smell. Mmmmmmmh! Second: You can use it for everything and lazy as I am that's exactly what I need. I put it in my hair, either overnight as a mask or just a tiny little bit in my tips to moisturize them, on my body and even on my cleaned face. And my very dry skin and hair thank me with a healthy shine.

Benefits, benefits, benefits. And did I mention the delicious smell?

...make sure to wear some flowers in your hair!

Gut, ich hatte keine Blumen im Haar aber zumindest hab ich meine geliebte Golden Gate Bridge wieder gesehen. Ich hab wirklich keine Ahnung wie eine Brücke so eine Anziehungkraft haben kann, aber ich hab mich sofort verliebt als ich das erste Mal drüber gefahren bin. Und wir reden hier nicht von nem Kerl, sondern von einer Brücke, soweit ist es jetzt schon mit mir-  Es ist einfach eine unglaublich schöne Konstruktion und ein wirklich irreales Gefühl tatsächlich davor zu stehen. Das nächste Mal wenn wir nach San Francisco fahren (hoffentlich diesen Sonntag, allerdings soll es regen also vielleicht eher nicht) werden wir uns auf jeden Fall noch einen Punkt suchen der ein bisschen näher ist und mehr Fotos machen!

Well, I didn't have the flowers but at least I got to see my beloved Golden Gate Bridge again. I don't know how a bridge can have such a power of attraction but really fell for it the moment I first drove over it. We're not talking about a guy but of a bridge... something is incredible wrong with me- It's just such a beautiful construction and irreal feeling to really stay in front of it. The next time we go to San Francisco (hopefully this Sunday, it's supposed to rain though so probably not) we'll definitely go to a closer spot to make some more pictures!

DIY: Aztec Print Cut Offs. Shorts #1

Quick, easy and oh so inexpensive! I paid about $2 for old denim pants at the thrift store, cut them off, drew on the aztec print and voilà! I had fabric markers anyway, but I guess if you go to your local arts and crafts store it won't cost you more than three bucks to get one.

Ich hab alle drei Schönheiten in den letzen Tagen gekauft und bin mehr als zufrieden damit, vorallem das Hemd mit dem doppelten Kragen hat es mir angetan und ich hab schon tausende Kombinationsmöglichkeiten im Kopf. Der grünlich- goldene Glanz ist einfach wunderschön!

I bought all these cuties in the past few days and I'm more than happy with them, especially with the double collared shirt. I have at least a thousand ideas how to combine it already and I just love the greenish golden shimmer!
