Mein allerletztes Wochenende in Kalifornien habe ich mit meiner Freundin komplett in San Francisco verbracht, hier sind ein paar der Bilder, die ich an dem Samstag gemacht habe. Ich werd wirklich ein bisschen sentimental wenn ich sie mir jetzt angucke, aber wir hatten so eine super Zeit zusammen, dass ich hauptsächlich froh bin, dass ich so eine einmalige und wunderbare Erfahrung machen konnte.

these are some of the pictures from Saturday. I'm getting a bit sentimental just looking at them, but we had such a great time together that I'm mostly glad that I was lucky enough to be able to experience something that wonderful and unique.

Die letzten Tage

Meine Tage in den Staaten sind langsam gezählt, am 19. September steige ich wieder, und diesmal endgültig, in den Flieger nach Deutschland.
Was ich davon halte weiß ich noch nicht genau, sicher ist aber, dass sich gerade eine bitterböse Melancholie bei mir breit macht, die sich trotz vieler Versuche nicht abschütteln lässt. Ich versuche jetzt einfach die letzten Tage noch so gut wie möglich zu nutzen, was natürlich auch bedeutet, noch so oft wie möglich San Francisco unsicher zu machen.


Die Bilder sind von letztem Sonntag, in der Stadt selbst war es eigentlich eher kühl und berühmt "foggy", trotzdem habe ich noch mal ein bisschen Zeit auf den Twin Peaks verbracht, da ich dort wahrscheinlich nicht mehr hinkommen werde.

Das eigentliche Highlight des Tages kam gegen Abend, als wir schon auf dem Rückweg waren. Nicht weit vom Haus meiner Freundin entfernt liegt eine sehr niedliche Lichtung mit einer Schaukel, von der man einen unglaublichen Blick auf die Bucht und San Francisco hat, vernebelter Golden Gate Bridge inklusive.

Es mag verrückt klingen, aber ich war selten so glücklich wie auf dieser Schaukel.

Roadtrip '12

I was working a lot the last weeks and I'm almost killing myself planning the ultimate roadtrip... just one more week to go, whooooho. 

Starting next Saturday we're going to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Santa Fe, New Orleans, Nashville and Memphis + we're going to see Death Valley,  Route 66, the Grand Canyon and Four Corners.
I can't even tell you how excited I am, this is going to be the biggest adventure ever.

I took these pictures last Saturday in Mill Valley, it it almost too beautiful there.

I was wearing a dress from Goodwill ($4,99), ballet flats from Primark (€3 ?), a straw hat from Goodwill ($2,99) and a denim jacket (Hospice Thrift Store, $4)

...make sure to wear some flowers in your hair!

Gut, ich hatte keine Blumen im Haar aber zumindest hab ich meine geliebte Golden Gate Bridge wieder gesehen. Ich hab wirklich keine Ahnung wie eine Brücke so eine Anziehungkraft haben kann, aber ich hab mich sofort verliebt als ich das erste Mal drüber gefahren bin. Und wir reden hier nicht von nem Kerl, sondern von einer Brücke, soweit ist es jetzt schon mit mir-  Es ist einfach eine unglaublich schöne Konstruktion und ein wirklich irreales Gefühl tatsächlich davor zu stehen. Das nächste Mal wenn wir nach San Francisco fahren (hoffentlich diesen Sonntag, allerdings soll es regen also vielleicht eher nicht) werden wir uns auf jeden Fall noch einen Punkt suchen der ein bisschen näher ist und mehr Fotos machen!

Well, I didn't have the flowers but at least I got to see my beloved Golden Gate Bridge again. I don't know how a bridge can have such a power of attraction but really fell for it the moment I first drove over it. We're not talking about a guy but of a bridge... something is incredible wrong with me- It's just such a beautiful construction and irreal feeling to really stay in front of it. The next time we go to San Francisco (hopefully this Sunday, it's supposed to rain though so probably not) we'll definitely go to a closer spot to make some more pictures!

California, where the grass is always green.

Gestern war im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes der bisher längste Tag meines Lebens, immerhin liegen zwischen Californien und Deutschland neun Stunden Zeitdifferenz. 33 Stunden hieß es also zu füllen mit endlos langen Flügen, Wartezeiten an überfüllten Flughäfen und ganz viel Müdigkeit. Letztendlich bin ich dann aber gegen 14 Uhr sicher in San Francisco gelandet und soweit ich es bis jetzt beurteilen kann ist es hier wirklich schön! :) 

Yesterday was literally the longest day of my life due to the fact that there are nine hours of time difference between Germany and California. 33 hours to fill with flights, waiting time and lots of tiredness. But in the end I arrived around 2pm safe and sound in San Francisco and as far as I can tell yet everything is just great here :)

It's always sunny in Philadelphia. Part 2.

Am zweiten Tag haben wir ungeplanterweise erst einmal ausgeschlafen, uns dann schnell fertig gemacht und sind dann losgezogen, um unsere letzten Stunden in Philly noch zu genießen. Was wir trotz Zeitmangels nochmal aufsuchen mussten war "unser" Café "Elyxr", wo wir am Tag vorher den besten Cappuccino der Welt getrunken haben, nur zu empfehlen!

Wir haben uns generell dafür entschieden, den Tag eher ruhiger anzugehen und dafür vielleicht nicht jede Sehenswürdigkeit, uns dafür aber das, was wir schaffen, genau anzusehen. Gegen 16 Uhr kam dann auch schon wieder unser Bus und ab gings zurück nach Boston.

 "Ich sehe hier irgendwie sehr viele ärmere Leute"- "Ist ja auch Thanksgiving, da sind alle mit ihren Familien zusammen und nur die Obdachlosen auf der Straße"- "Also wir..." Danke I. für ein ganz tolles Thanksgiving!

The second day started with us sleeping over so just got ready pretty fast and headed to the city to enjoy our last few hours in Philly. In spite of our lack of time we had to go to a little coffee house ("Elyxr") again that we dicovered the day before, because they served us the best cappuccino ever, I strongly recommend it!

We dicided not to run through the city to see every single attraction but see as much as possible in a relaxed way and by taking closer looks at everything. Around 4pm we already had to be at our bus stop and we went back to Boston.

"I see a lot of poor people around here"- "It's because everybody spend Thanksgiving with thier families and only the homeless are on the streets"- "Like us..." Thanks I. for a great time!

It's always sunny in Philadelphia. Part 1.

Philly wir kommen!

Wie schon gesagt war ich über Thanksgiving in Philadelphia. Ich war ziemlich gespannt, vorallem weil ich I. vorher nicht kannte, Gott sei Dank lief aber alles super und wir haben uns klasse verstanden. Mittwoch Nacht gings los und wir sind nach ungefähr acht Stunden (1 mal umsteigen, 2 Stunden warten) nur ein paar Blocks von unserem Hostel angekommen. Da wir aber erst um 2pm einchecken konnten, haben wir uns direkt auf den Weg gemacht und es war definitiv eindrucksvoll. Nicht unbedingt in erster Linie der Stadt ansich wegen, sondern vorallem, weil ich es hier in Amerika noch nie erlebt habe, dass wirklich 95% der Läden geschlossen sind und man auf den Straßen kaum Menschen sieht. Das war neu.

Like I already said I spend Thanksgiving in Philadelphia with I., another Au Pair I didn't knew before. But it all worked out nicely and we liked eachother immediately. We took the bus Wednesday night and after around eight hours we arrived just a few blocks away from our hostel. We weren't able to check in before 2pm so we started to discover everything and it was definitely impressive. Not just because of the city but because of the fact that I've never experienced a holiday like that since I'm in the US. Almost nobody on the streets and all the stores closed, that was new for me.

Great architecture...

Ganz besonders verliebt hab ich mich in die City Hall, ich finde, dass es ein wahsinnig schönes Gebäude ist und ich könnte wirklich tausende Bilder davon posten.

I especially fell in love with the City Hall, I think it's a gorgeous building and I could have posted a thousand pictures of it.

Philly konnte aber nicht nur durch die wunderschöne City Hall überzeugen, sondern vorallem auch durch die wirklich hübschen Wohnviertel. Ich habe keine einzige Straße gesehen, die mir nicht gefallen hat, ich bin total begeistert! Ich hatte mich im Vorfeld gar nicht so eingehend mit der Stadt beschäftigt und muss sagen, dass ich mehr als positiv überrascht bin. Wirklich schade, dass wir nicht mehr Zeit dort hatten.

I wasn't just conviced by Philly's beautiful City Hall but by it's adorable residental areas. While we were there I did not see a single street that I didn't like. I'm more than positively surprised because I didn't really inform myself about the ity before, it's a shame that we just had 1 1/2 days there.

Die Bilder des zweiten Tages gibt es dann morgen. Das berühmte Philly- Cheesesteak hab ich übrigens gegessen, fand ich aber gar nicht mal so gut.

The pictures I took on the other day I'll post tomorrow. I tried the famous Philly cheesesteak btw, can't say that I have to eat it again.
